Mulberry Leaf Extract for Auxiliary Blood Glucose Regulation




Mulberry leaf extract is the ethanol extract of dry moraceae plant mulberry leaf . The main ingredients include 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), mulberry leaf flavonoids and mulberry leaf polysaccharide etc.

According to the 2015 China Pharmacopoeia, the property and flavor and channel tropism of mulberry leaf includes sweet, bitter and cold. It is mainly effective for dispelling wind and heat, clearing lung-heat and moistening dryness and clearing liver and improving vision. And it is used for the treatment of wind-heat type cold, lung heat dry cough, headache and dizziness, and bloodshot dim-sighted eyes.

General specification: Mulberry leaf flavonoids 5% UV; mulberry leaf polysaccharide 20% UV; 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) 1%,2%, 5% HPLC.

Product appearance: Brown or dark brown fine powder.

Production process:
Harvesting after first frost, removing impurities, putting into pot after arranging and cleaning the dry mulberry leaf, adding 12 times amount of extracting solutio over the herb, reflux extraction for 3 times with temperature controlled arranging from 70℃ to 80 ℃, extraction time of 3 hours, 2 hours, and 1 hour respectively, filtering the filtrate, merging the filtrate for the 3 times, decompressing and condensing into the extractum with the relative density of 1.10-1.20 (at room temperature), spray drying, destroying into 80 mesh powder, entering warehouse after packing and testing, then the mulberry leaf extract will be obtained. For high content, extraction, chromatography, crystallization and other processes are further required.

For treatment of lung heat dry cough, dry heat impairing lung, and lung heat dry cough etc.
4. Decreasing blood glucose
The hypoglycemic effect is achieved by two ways:
1) 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), the α-glucosidase inhibitor, will inhibit disaccharide decomposition enzyme activity to inhibit small intestine to absorb disaccharides, decrease high peak value for decreasing postprandial blood glucose.
2)Mulberry alkaloids fagomine and mulberry leaf polysaccharide can promote β cells to secrete insulin, which can facilitate cell to utilize sugar, compound hepatic glycogen and to improve glucose metabolism, achieving the hypoglycemic effect.
In conclusion, 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) can effectively inhibit the transformation of sugar in the body and reduce the sugar content in the blood.
The mulberry leaf flavonoids are also a necessary factor for regulating blood glucose.
Mulberry leaf polysaccharide has many pharmacological effects, such as hypoglycemic and anti-atherosclerosis.
