Ginger extract is extracted from the fresh roots of the ginger through supercritical CO2 (SCDE). The main active ingredient: zingiber officinale gingerol. The 2015 Pharmacopoeia mentioned that zingiber officinale gingerol can stimulate to dispel cold, warm the spleen and stomach and alleviate vomiting, prevent phlegm from forming and stop coughing, detoxicate fish and crab. Zingiber officinale gingerol is divided into different types, namely gingerol, ginger phenol, ginger ketone, gingerdione and gingerdiol etc.
Production process:
Ginger extract is derived from fresh rhizome of ginger. Harvest in autumn and winter, remove the fibrous roots and sediment, dry to water content of below 5%, smash, then the coarse powder is obtained. Input the raw materials into pot, add 12 times amount of 60% ethanol, reflux and extract for three times with temperature controlled between 65℃ and 85 ℃ and the extraction time is 3 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour respectively, filter the extracting solution, merge the filtrates for the three times and adsorb through macroporous resin, respectively elute with with 70-80% ethanol, 50-60% ethanol, 30-40% ethanol, merge the eluate and stand for 1-3 hours, filter to get crude extract; concentrate the extract to 20-30% of the original volume, stand for 1-2 hours, filter and dry, then the finished ginger extract is obtained. For high content of ginger extract, the processes such as extraction, chromatography, and crystallization are further required.

Main efficacy:
Ginger extract is used for preventing nausea caused by chemotherapy and surgical anesthesia, reducing motion sickness due to travel by car or boat, relieving the pregnancy-induced and postoperative nausea and vomiting.

Precautions:

For the treatment of nausea during pregnancy, the dose for women can be 1 gram per day, but ginger extract should only be used for remission of nausea symptoms rather than as the main drug.
